History

In 1986, the business operated as a small ad agency and production company providing advertising, media planning and direct marketing to local businesses. Key services focused on writing and concepting projects, such as direct mail campaigns with envelope snipes, brochure inserts, order forms with product information and long, persuasive cover letters. We offered our expertise writing copy for direct mail campaigns, company sales brochures, salesletters, response ads for newspaper and magazines, annual reports, radio spots, video scripts, email and web site landing pages.

In 1988, the company with a growing staff of four moved to a quaint office near Deep Elum in downtown Dallas. Deep Ellum is described as the renovated warehouse district located just three blocks east of downtown Dallas. This 170 acres is known as the alternative from the "norm." It is the home of fashion-forward, trend-setting style and the birthplace for many new bands. The neighborhood has New York style lofts for the bold, and is recognized as the place to shop for unique gifts and originals. You can dine at a one-of-a-kind restaurant and then experience the vast selection of original, live music from jazz to Latin, rock, blues, or new alternative. The arts district environment suited the team's creative side and the business flourished, adding four creative professionals to staff. Initial services focused on direct marketing communications.

First Clients

The company managed projects, including hands-on tasks from copywriting to print production for such prestigious organizations as: Dallas Convention & Event Services, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Pilgrim’s Pride, Sage Group, Sunshine Mining Company, Michael’s MJ Design, Crow Design Centers, Tri City Hospital, Children’s Apparel Services, Grand Prairie State Bank, Holiday Inn and Allied Marketing Group.

The team applied their own innovative direct response strategies to direct mail campaigns and brochures for mail order and catalogs, which resulted in exceptional response rates in the 6-11% range at a time when 2% was the norm.In 1995, the company dropped the name Copywriters, which seemed to reflect more of a freelance copywriter feel, and moved the business to North Dallas, and maintained the original name of Marketing Department.

Marketing Department, our parent company, created a program and executed marketing strategies that increased marketing share 2% in a competitive marketplace. We applied awardwinning creative together with proven direct response strategies and consistently accelerated revenue and profit growth through combined expertise in design, marketing, management and communications.

In the year 2002, Marketing Department moved into software development with a browser-based website and store that could be installed quickly. Other technology products we now offer include My Ideal Friend.
